Sleeping with curly hair: tips for pillow-proof curls
When you have curly hair, going to sleep at night is always a moment that generates a little anxiety. The night is the moment in which it risk getting damaged the most, losing volume and elasticity, becoming frizzy and forming the very unpleasant knots. And waking up becomes a moment of panic!
For this reason it is important not to underestimate the moment of sleep and to adopt the right techniques to preserve the natural beauty of the curls even during the night.
The secret is studying a little evening routine, which puts your hair in the best conditions to face the stress of being rubbed on the pillow! Here are our tips:
1. Bye bye cotton
Cotton is the least suitable fabric to support your curls on: it is an excellent conductor of electrostaticity and has a high humidity absorption rate, which means that it electrifies the hair, dehydrates it and makes it frizzy! So choose a silk pillowcase or alternatively wrap your curls in a silk cap – the frizz effect is avoided!
2. Moisturizing is better than cure
Loss of hydration is the biggest cause of frizz, so make sure you use highly hydrating products such as Moisturizing Shampoo and Soothing Conditionerwhen washing, to preserve the natural health of your hair. Before going to sleep you can apply the Leave-In Moisturizing Cream on the lengths: it will help keep them supple and defined until you wake up!
3. Yes to the tactical hairstyle
Squeezing curly hair all night against your pillow — even with a silk pillowcase — do you think it's a good idea? This is how you can say goodbye to volume! Try the "pineappling" method: keep your head tilted forward, gather the curls on the top of your head (as close to the forehead as possible) and secure them with a soft elastic. In the morning, just remove the elastic and turn your hair upside down.
You are now ready to say goodbye to waking up panic!
