SOS flat roots: what to do to give volume to curly hair
There is nothing worse than finding yourself in the morning with a triangle-shaped hair: roots so flat that they seem non-existent and curls that fall to the sides of the head, spreading outwards! To be able to solve the problem, you must first study the situation... what prevents the curls from remaining voluminous? It can be a matter of haircut – to maximize volume a block cut is always better – but more often the problem is the force of gravity, or the weight of the lengths that flattens the roots.
In this case, all you have to do is give the roots some extra attention and try some techniques to "pull" them up! Here are our favourites:
1. Volume at the roots with clipping
To give volume to the roots it is necessary to provide them with support, creating tension when they are still wet and malleable. This is exactly what the clipping technique is for:
- After applying the styling products, divide the hair into medium sized strands.
- Gently lift the roots of each strand and attach a clip (i.e. flat hair tweezers) to its base. The clip must be positioned horizontally, as close to the scalp as possible.
- Once all the strands have been completed, proceed with drying with a diffuser.
2. Pineappling for sleep
The night is the hardest time for curls: pressed for many hours against the pillow, they inexorably lose volume and definition. Get used to going to sleep with your hair tied up in a pineapple: keep your head tilted forward, gather the curls on the top of your head (as close to the forehead as possible) and secure them with a soft elastic. In the morning, just remove the elastic and turn your hair upside down!
3. The allied products of the definition
The right mix of Curl-Activating Volumising Foam and Moisturizing and Modeling Custard Gel can work wonders: apply the mousse both before the gel to activate volume and lighten the curls and afterwards, to fix the definition and break up the cast effect! Remember to use the styling techniques after each application: ranking, scrunching, finger coils… go wild!
Now you just have to test these techniques to "turn up the volume" to your curls!
